The Gallipoli expedition of 1915, the brainchild of Winston Churchill, was designed to knock the Turkish Empire out of the First World War and open a supply route to Russia. The campaign is characterised by the military incompetence of the higher commands, particularly the Allies.

Unless you are a Turk who objects to the constant attempts by "Western" authors to turn a resounding defeat of the British and French invasion of Turkey into some kind of "victory" (after the arrogance of the British and Russian Governments of the day forced Turkey into a war they didn't want).
If that is the case then I can understand the -4 rating

    to continue my previous thought
the Serbs needed sea access and after southern Macedonia was given to the Greeks, and Albania to the Italians (it was a semi independent) the only sea access for Serbia was Bosnia and a large part of the Bosnian population was Serb, the Serbians thought it would be an easy win, the reason for Serbia going to war was Sea access but why did Austria go to war, they couldn't hope to control Serbia, or that the rest of the big powers would let them?
I still think Baldricks explanation from Blackadder 4 was the best,
a bloke called Archie Duke shot an Ostrich cos he was hungry.

what do you mean a war they didn't want?
After the two Balkan wars 1912-1913 when the Balkan alliance expelled the ottomans from Europe Turkie was looking for a way to get back the territories it lost, they just got in with the wrong side, not that the Germans wore Turkish allies (the French wore) it's that out of the 4 countries that annexed Ottoman lands in Europe 3 wore with the allies and only 1 with the Austrians, 3>1, plus until WW1 there was no Turkie or a Turkish nation there was a muslim Ottoman Empire, losing the war was a way to a modern Turkish nation.

@ mf1212 and ronsin. Thanks for youf feedback and +ratings :)

@ mf1212. I don't think the Ottoman Empire wished to be at war with the French, British and Russian Empires all at once. The Kingdom of Italy was a different case, after their annexation of Tripolitania, Fezzan, and Cyrenaica in 1912 :)

in the begining of the 19 th century the Ottomans lost Bosnia to the Austrians, and after the Balkan wars lost Macedonia to the Serb/Bulgarian/Greek coalition, they lost Albania to Italy and if it wasn't for the inter-fighting between the Bulgarians and the rest of the Balkan nations they would have been completely expelled from Europe and would have lost Constantinople (Istanbul), the Balkan coalition forces wore camped outside Istanbul when the Serbs and the Greeks started fighting with the Bulgarians, the fear from Russia gaining a warm sea port forced the Bulgarians out of Thessaloniki and gave the greeks the largest port in Southern Europe.
The Sultan needed to gain his lands back and the English and French who went to war to Support Serbia woren't going to give Serbian land back to the Ottomans, so they sided with Austria and Bulgaria?
European wars are silly but WW1 gave birth to a Turkish nation and the fall of the Ottoman empire (along with the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires)
The rise of Italian hegemony in northern Africa might was a factor for the Ottomans but for the life of me I can't remember who's side was Italy in WW1?
You're forgetting the reason for WW1, the growth of Serbia after anexing part of Macedonia,

just remembered reading somewhere that prior to WW1 the Austrians wore planing on a war against the Ottomans with the goal of gaining the agean sea, although they controlled the east of the Adriatic the shape of the Adriatic and the position of Italy was a negative factor, in one of Austro/Italian skirmishes the Italians sank a bunch of Austrian ships from their shore so the Austrians needed an open sea.
That's my opinion for the start of WW1, the Austrians wanted an open sea they planed on the Agean by defeating Serbia and Greece, the Serbs wanted any sea the Adriatic thru Bosnia was enough for them, and the rest of the combatants wore idiots.
