Members with High "RATING" can Rate more others and Highly THAN members who has Low "RATING" OR 0 "RATING"
– Thus Members with good "RATING" has more POWER and PRESTIGE in SA.
Members with 0 POWER can NOT Rate Members, Topics and Comments.
New Members have as a start 0 "Rating" and 1 Power.
So it is in short the Rating system in which members of SA can: Rate any Member or Topic or even Comment.
Examples:
Rate any Member: Open profile of member what you want to rate. (ex.: http://users.softarchive.net/Odissea/)
Click up or down arrow. (UP - if you like him; DOWN - if you don't like him) ATTENTION: "Rating" in members profile = 0.5deducted from your Power.
Rate any Topic:
Click up or down arrow. (UP - Like; DOWN - Dislike) ATTENTION: "Rating" in article = 0.2deducted from your Power.
2) And we will check all members with LOW "Rating", who may get banned for their bad deeds.

Yes: it's an interactive system. But it should better to say: it should be an interactive system... I mean:
I'm here at SA from January but i have visisited it all (and i repeat: all) the days and i have noticed that a very few uploaders rate the comments.
The saddest thing is that even the highest admins, (when they are uploaders as well), don't rate anything and anybody (except in rare cases). It should be nice if they set the good example.
Thanks to you (mr. index), thanks to SA (a good site) and thanks to all the downloaders: points and rating apart, the real interactive system consists in the simultaneous presence of good uploaders (and therefore posts) and effective downloaders, and topped by a wise administration !

Internet connection in my country is still something luxurious, once I can only d/l with 10 - 20 KB/s, now with 20 - 40 KB/s, so dowloading big files is a pain.... and after d/l them, in fact the file size can be reduce more...

Yes. Admin decides the rules. Rules may change during the time. Presently they are:
If u have up to 99.99 power, u worth 1 point
between 100 and 299.99, u worth 2 points
between 300 and 499.99, u worth 3 points
≥500, u worth 4 points
Ps.1 Sometimes, for technical sistem delay (in other words: system's bug), you could give more points: even 25 or 33 or 47 ecc. -- is not normal but... it happens... it's so nice... :-)
Ps.2 The more power u have, the more points (better say: fraction of point) u can give (or take off) to other commentators.
what really hurts people is taking away there rating points and there hard to earn I think this has to be looked at and should not be available to missuse - If I dont like some one I can place there rating below 0 it is fun :D but not fair
Good explanation! But in very rare cases uploader rate comments. If you add a rule that the uploader must gave some ratings at least first 5/10 commentators or must pay some head to comments it would be a great thing. In this way authors would pay more attention to data they have posted and a link will be created between author and blog visitor. It applies more effectiveness to SA.
The comment I will rate will have to impart something that is useful and informative! Other-wise, NaDa. I like to learn something from others. So if you are wise, witty or have an insight that other people do not have, then post it. Otherwise please refrain. I like a good laugh as well as the next man. :) Thank you for your attention.
Sometimes i´m tired to come three times to sites, they ask me again and again to be a new member, a power user, to pay for a special membership . . . and so on. I only get files one or two times in a month and have really no time and no reason for one file to open three memberships a week. I like to stay on a site not on 30 sites. I think your refering to another site because there is no power user option here - you can make a donation and get better benifits like power points and removel of adds - a free user has all the rights as does some one who makes donations - and in no way does softarchive ask you to pay to become a member - and you are a member - so did they ask you to pay helifan ? I don't think helifan was complaining about this site:
1) helifan said "sites" so I think the reference was a general one - not about a specific site, especially not this one
2) helifan sent pleasant greetings - not typical or logical to complain then be nice
3) helifan was, I believe, trying to share pleasantly and even compliment this site for not being like others even though helifan did not say that directly
I admit I could be totally wrong, but I try to pay attention to detail and assume the best of others. That is not to say you are bad or did anything wrong, fudge; I thought you maybe just didn't notice it said "sites" or thought about it this way. Have a nice day.

you have to click on some ones name and that takes you to there home page (blog) where you can update there rating - Lot of people think clicking on the plus and minus arrows next to the comments gives them ratings I dont think it does it only gives them power points

when they are online they do post and give points - Like all of us they have to sleep and some post so many articles they lose track - and cant respond to them all but they are all good uploaders and do respond when they can - Bad uploaders that are assholes dont last long
Thanks for all this info folks. One thing I am really unsure of is either when we click the "Say Thanks" or make a comment, we do receive 1 rating point. But.... what is the real purpose of having those 2 features if they do exactly the same thing? Only thing I can think of is if a user may not have much time to actually type in a "Thanks" comment. Anyways, I myself, I always click the "Say Thanks" for any topic that I have downloaded. I saw someone say something about "The Hunter" which I am assuming he/she is a Mod here. This I didn't know, but I do like many of his/her postings. If we downloaders and post commenters need power in order to rate posts and other people. Mainly, we get this power form uploaders in theit posts. So, all in all, it's a give-and-take sytem, wich DOES NOT work properly unless we are given power to use it.
Message to uploaders: Do you want people to give good ratings in your posts? GIVE THEM positive ratings in exchange when they do, so they will be able to continue doing the same... Simple.
Sharing files is not an easy task. It takes, among other things, a lot of time and energy. While most of us members only take and never give (probably because we have nothing new to share) it is always nice to thank the uploaders as a token of appreciation for all their efforts.
I have come across websites in which the uploaders are actually begging people to thank them...not nice. The system here in SA is a well-thought and brilliant way to remind everyone that gratitude and appreciation are crucial to developing a working relationship among people who do not even know each other but have things in common and have gathered from around the world in a website where they can all communicate in friendship and peace.

Me too... :(, i already member since 6 Mar 2009, this information very usefull, but i never get rate from uploader when i give comment to say thanks or something. Soo... until now i can't start my own blog. :(

well done on this FAQ, i would say this is the most important piece of info to get started. I see that this has the most like, perhaps the articles should sort by the like and by the no of comments.

Thanks for the guidelines...its an eyeopener that I long ignore. I will try to comply and see whether my efforts will bear fruit or not. If not all I can manage to do is to persist on what I understand. But I know I don't belong to the tribe.
