FileServe, FileSonic and others start deleting files, might block USA IPs, close their affiliate programs.

As many of you are probably aware of, Megaupload was shut down by the Feds. In response to that, Anonymous took down several government and music websites.

What are file sharing affiliate programs?

File sharing hosts pay uploaders with monetary incentives in a variety of ways.

For example, they might pay $35 for 1000 downloads of your files. Or they might pay $15 for every "premium" signup referral you make.

What are they closing these programs?

Most filesharing hosts have legalspeak in their Terms of Service that make users/uploaders responsible for all uploaded content, instead of the host itself.

The monetary incentives offered to uploaders from affiliate schemes could potentially give them massive legal problems.

Due to the Megaupload case (as well as Hotfile & Rapidshare) it has been shown that these Terms of Service loopholes are not considered valid by the USA / FBI.

What the authorities dislike more than rights infringement, is people earning money from rights infringement.

Filesharing Host Tally as of right now

CLOSED.

Deleting multiple files. Closed affiliate program.

(Owned by Fileserve) Deleting multiple files. Testing out blocking some USA IP addresses. Closed affiliate program.

Your idea is exatcly what i've been trying say my friend. Removing host restriction should be considered and the number of mirrors is a big deal at his point. Let's say we must provide at least 3 mirrors. As long as files are alive we will have a chance to keep going but if there is gonna be list like "Rapidshare,Oron,FileFactory,Mediafire" no-one will be uploading here. I know i'm saying this so directly but just take a look a the situation. I hope Admins take this into consideration. You definitely got a point and thanks.

You just simply need to stay away from Internet but you couldn't do because something that is not under the control of your giant corporations makes you angry and feel desperate... So you had to take over (or bring democracy to the Internet) don't you!!!

I see no matter which host we start using it's gonna be shut down which makes it really hard. I truly don't know where to upload files anymore 'cause either it's gonna be deleted or my account will be suspended. Thanks for giving us the heads up. I'm personally grateful for this.

This is a knee jerk reaction from the filesharing hosts, Its a case that the Governments cannot get it stopped by targeting the sharers or the downloaders, So now they seem to be going after the host, The problem is that other ways will be found and sharing will continue, just hold on and wait and see where this goes.

As the US Congress passed the sopa act the US Senate should be verifying it next week maybe the hosts are waiting for the resolute before continuing, but even if the Senate passes sopa then it will be Obama's move as he would need to sign the bill, and after that free speech activists can take the case against sopa to the US supreme court.
It's not only a US problem EU/Russian/Chinese and Indian (all of us need to react) citizens need to pressure their governments to oppose sopa as the US doesn't own the net, no one does!

    Entertainment Industry Will Sue Ireland

Ireland might become the first country to be brought down by the music industry for failing to do what it is told regarding to file-sharing. According to the reports, entertainment industry is currently going to sue the cash-strapped Irish government for failing to bring in a copyright legislation that blocks sites. The entertainment industry wants websites it mentions to be blocked without having to go to trial. So, if the Ireland doesn’t do what it is told, it will be claimed a pirate and must be brought down. It seems that the background to this case is hidden in the October 2010 judgment in EMI vs UPC case, where the judge decided that Irish legislation didn’t permit to make an order against an Internet service provider demanding blocking of online services.

There should be a class action suit against the entertainment industry for tricking people into buying inferior products all the time without knowing just how bad it is until after they wasted their money.
Switzerland has it right, the numbers are exaggerated, they are making more money than they admit and they did the same thing about cassette recorders, and VCRs, scanners, photocopiers, etc.
That's like Kodak trying to stop digital photos because they aren't buying their film.

One wonders. What this is really all about. Not trying to judge or deny - but rather look at the logic of it all. It's called free marketing. First of all who does the downloads - is it really the masses and in a case of a new movie the people who don't go to the movies any more ? Look at the numbers of ticket sales and return on the New movies made after the first month. Is the internet really cutting the profits ? One could state that small movie production loose out ! - but really - who would hear or watch the movie in the first place ? And If you have to pay for a crap movie on the internet .. can you get your money back ? I did see somewhere that one actually rates low budget movies via - downloads on the internet. ---- Software programs - How many of you actually use any of the programs downloaded ? Most of them are crap and the 1% useful run out of date the month later.
Are you the Softarchive downloader really the neck breaker in this ?
I seriously wonder if some or most of the stuff would ever be known or reaches the Normal Consumer if it wouldn't be for the FREE Internet.
So what are we seriously looking at ? If a company really doesn't want their Programs/Music/Movies online - Just do what everyone does - look for a copy for download - and ask the provider to please take it down.
Which basically creates Jobs - to do such thing !
The above does exclude those Person who actually copy contents and sell it off as the real thing !!

What is crap about this is that Internet was the last place where we can find OLD movies or songs. Actually the shops only put the NEW things in their displays.
Recently I found an old record from 75's... where will can we find it now ?
RIAA and others want us to buy the shits they produce all the years and no matter for those who want REAL music or movie.
They want quick money... all their shit money, they misunderstand the consumers... they are fool.
And I think the same about those who shared for money.
Stop do something for money... think liberty and culture... that can save your life now.
Of course it's only my personal sight

Not only Softarchive... but many of the sharing websites are going to fail now...
How can they share if no server can keep the files for download ?

And those who say 'Peer to Peer' are false I think
PtoP is very susceptible to detection of IP and notice to the law representatives.

We are falling in the 'Dark Age of Share' I'm afraid.

well its too bad we gonna lose many good posts files here.

MPAA think its good for their business yes it might in short term, but in long run it make US economy even worse people and investors moving away from US to other countries. like rest of companies moved away their asset to CHINA! like apple!

unfortunately lobbies in Congress and house have too much influence on senators.

and most of senators dont know the differences between Berlin walls and firewalls!

so too bad for American peoples they just gain small reward in short term and big lose in long run

sometimes shit happens!,and do not forget that 6 out of 8 main DNS servers are located in US. If they are closed we will be in a very deep shit! Better try to negociate than fight! US wants more money, and they are ready to "search for oil" even in a rat hole! They are rednecks with fixed targets! better avoid fighting with such cretures if you're not powerfull enough!

6 out of 8 main DNS servers are located in US. No they're not if you're thinking about google's free DNS or Open DNS that's another thing but most DNS servers are in Europe and Asia (The US has a population of about 300Mil Europe above 700M (not EU)) Asia has a population above 3 Billion (do you think India and China and the Euros use US DNS that would be the end of the net every Euro URL being forwarded to the US then back to Europe no no) RIANA (a Multinational NGO has it's offices in the US but it's time they moved to safer shores maybe Iran or North Kore they'll have more freedom there)

The problem is simple, the USA states that it wants tighter control of the Internet with no illegal file copying etc. This is not quite true, first of all, it's not theirs to control and secondly, what they actually want to control is information and lastly, I wonder exactly how much information do the FBI, the NSA and all the other "law-abiding" organisations download illegally on a daily basis? The Internet is for everybody, the USA must not be allowed to take it over and DICTATE its future policy, because they will reduce it to rubbish. Arrogance combined with ignorance is extremely dangerous.

Just found this on Rapidshare news page

RapidShare is starting the year 2012 with a great new feature. We are happy to fulfill a desire that was expressed by many of our customers: you can now directly share RapidShare folders with other users!

This news summarizes the most important information. You can find more details in this tutorial and the FAQ.

You can find your contact list on the right edge of the screen. This is where you manage your contacts and folder permissions. If you want to share a folder with another user, you first add the user to your contact list and then edit his/her permissions for the desired folder. You can individually change the permissions for downloading, uploading and browsing files in a folder.

Per default, all your folders remain visible for you only. Thus, if you don't want to use the folder sharing feature, you don't have to change any settings - RapidShare will work just the same as before.

The detailed default settings for all folders are the following:

No one except for you can see a list of the folder's content ("browse permission").
No one except for you can upload files to the folder ("upload permission").
Everyone who knows the exact download link for a file contained in the folder can download that file ("download permission").

You can change these settings for each user you have added to your contact list. Additionally, the contact list contains the entries "Public" (settings for all users, even those not in your contact list) and "Private" (for locking a folder and its files completely).

The file manager now shows the folders that your contacts have shared with you, under the Shared folders icon. Depending on your permissions, you can upload files to their folders or download or copy files to your own account.

Do you have questions, feedback, or suggestions for new features? Our support team is looking forward to receiving your message!

Speaking as a once proud American, it is not the fault of the people that this is happening. For years, (decades), our government has been slowly stripping us of our rights. Not until Obama took office has there been so much trodding on the rights of the people! It's always about money and big business and has been since the Federal Reserve was sold to the Rothschild's almost 100 years ago.

The really screwed up thing about all of this is that statistics show that down-loaders purchase more than the normal consumer. The file hosts that have either deleted files or suspended sharing have proven that they are not much better than the big corporations that everyone is complaining about. They were in it for the money!! If everyone would take this slow instead of panicking it wouldn't be as bad as it is.

I agree with the majority of the posters here that the US government is overstepping their bounds, but don't group all Americans in your disdain. That kind of thinking is why a lot of f***ed up s*** happens all over the world!!!

Yea, it wasn't my fault. I've been emailing senators, CNN, the president of mpaa Christopher J. Dodd. Here is what I wrote to the MPAA. (If anyone knows of better email address, notify me).
    ========================================================
    To
    contactus@mpaa.org
    Attention: Christopher J. Dodd‏
    Mr. Dodd,

In the early 1980s, the Motion Picture Association opposed the videocassette recorder (VCR) on copyright grounds. Your lucky you lost. This started a whole new Multi Billion dollar industry and created more jobs than you are able to imagine. Now you against Internet freedom. Try to Imageine that.

All of you who blame all Americans for what is going on need to understand something. I am not proud of what our government has done, but I won't take the responsibility for. Throughout the years I have uploaded numerous files to be shared by whoever around the world would like them, maybe even you, and have downloaded many the same way. Don't hold blame on everybody. Take your heads out of your asses, you might enjoy a breath of fresh air.

Are there any file share hosts in Canada? The supreme court of canada through out the usa for trying to pull this crap with our isp's, so they agreed the internet is the same as vcr's they told the music industry, the movie industry and the usa government to get back across the boarder and mind thier own business, I am gald the usa closed our borders, so sick of the usa politics, tired of shovelling up after them all the time.. I had a lifetime membership with megaupload and files on it too, guess I am s.o.l but thats life, take care, and we will win, the people always win, we just may not know it

Oron is terrible, even for people who pay. Wupload, Filepost, Filefactory, Depositfiles, RS, Bitshare, & Netload, are among the hosts that are still working. I'd suggest that people who can't afford host accounts (like me), search around for r@pidleech sites on google. I can download at premium speeds, from most of the hosts, when I find a working r@pidleech site.
As for the US bashing... it's the Corporate control of the Media, that's killing everything. If the Media actually reported News, as opposed to spewing the Propaganda they're paid to spew, people wouldn't be as ignorant as they've become.
Don't hate on Americans... educate them.

remember the day when we had to pay for a whole album, tape, cd just to get the one song we liked? We had to pay 20 bucks for one song. Warner brother's fires 50 percent of its employees due to piracy? More than likely the digital age is the reason. Who wants a to fill shelves with video tapes, cassettes or cd's? If you think the artist is rich take a closer look at who's paying them. What makes any of them worth millions of dollars? My kids all young dont hardly watch any of the movies hollywood is spewing out. Only the stuff from the previous decades. There is more going on here than movies and music. Im happy i dont live in america but its much the same here. Freedom is being taken in small chunks of every aspect of our lives. Even at the gas pump.

    Look like now ORON? See...

    Dear ORON partners,

It is that time of the year when we perform an annual review of all our professional account holders. This year is special however, because ORON has grown so much and we are now faced with quite a large number of affiliates to check and see if their accounts are up to date and in compliance with ORON terms.

We have introduced a different review protocol for this year. What this means for you is that for a short time all accounts will be placed on temporary hold and that hold is going to be released when your account has been checked and approved. We may request a contact from you so please, if you do receive such a request contact us without hesitation.

While your account is being reviewed the access to your stats and balance will be temporary suspended, please keep in mind that all stats will still be calculated and kept up to date. The access to stats will be granted to accounts that have passed our review.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

    ORON Team

Please consider removing Hosts restriction and let uploaders upload which host they want.

That's just my two cents otherwise we'll be really lack of shares here.

When this crisis is averted by our fellow hackers and sovereignty of our internet file hosting sites is restored, Lamar Smith shall be remembered as the world's greatest villain. I'd like to suggest that there is a powerful weapon; Mirror.
In this moment I think that that silly phrase 'pls no mirror!' sounds 'funny'! I'd say the contrary 'pls ADD as many mirror you can!". Anyone who can, please do mirror, flooding the net of all the archives that you have in your HDs. The server 1 goes down? let's go onto 2 and then onto 3, 4, 5... don't discuss about which server is better or not, it's a stupid question; they are risking arrest, it's obvious they are scared and they are even ready to shut down, but at least 1 there will be.
Until you spread your ideas, nobody can cage them, if you keep it in your mind and somebody stops you, the idea is dead.

    RasMan 24 Jan 2012 #

This is a good idea, but it needs to be taken a step further....
How about not having a full and complete archive on one server, distributing between 2, 3 or more servers, Yes this is a little more work but its safe for all, also naming conventions need to be bland and not obvious.

We all need to be smart, Tor is your friend!

agree with you that could be a be a huge task, but like somebody told above, it's a freedom fight.
if the archives could be spreaded on different servers, it would be like catching water with a net.
    Smart idea my friend.

I totaly agree with above sugested. Compress, password protect and split files, than upload all archives to different servers. beside that, files must have random names. we cant have file names like "A.Very.Harold.And.Kumar.Christmas.DVDRip.XviD-DiAMOND". Its to obvious thats file sharing. Instead name should be like "bnw8u".

Why was MegaUpload really shut down?

In December of 2011, just weeks before the takedown, Digital Music News reported on something new that the creators of #Megaupload were about to unroll. Something that would rock the music industry to its core. (http://goo.gl/A7wUZ)

I present to you... MegaBox. MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

"UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings," MegaUpload founder Kim 'Dotcom' Schmitz told Torrentfreak

Not only did they plan on allowing artists to keep 90% of their earnings on songs that they sold, they wanted to pay them for songs they let users download for free.

"We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free," Dotcom outlined. "Yes that's right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works."

Hears what I read. Why the feds smashed megaupload.
Employees uploaded content themselves, knew how important copyrighted content was to their business.

Most of us didn't understand yet.
The main point is to stop file-hosting sites paying rewards.
    Why?
    To stop uploaders!
That's why I'm telling you guys we should do it for freeeeeeee!

You're right however you know quite well that no-one will keep doing this stuff without getting paid. Because this is how the system worked if this is not gonna this pay there won't be as many uploader as there used to be i think. You're right, though

Uploaders are making money by sharing.
That's OK because downloaders benefit from uploaders.
This system works well between uploaders and downloaders.
However, content creators lose sales because of this, that is why manufacturers and now retaliating.

Content owner should sell their contents for cents, so many people would download them.

    It is simple math:

very cheap prises multiplied by many downloaders = $$$$

Cyberlocker sites understand this, why can't do this content owners??

I asked filesonic whether I should cancel my lifetime account. The following is their reply.

As far as I can tell, they are going to go out of business. I cannot even refer to my own uploads (pics, PDFs) that are simply items referred to in my HTML on my own web sites. I'm not a "commercial" uploader. It's just cloud storage as far as my web sites went. It was so perfect, to have used that together with https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net/ .

    Damn.

I would suggest that you should use amazon cloud to store you images etc if you plan on using cloud based serving and storage. My web applications and some of my web site databases back themselves up to amazon. And it costs me cents per month.

As for downloading, my Oron is still working. Ya gotta google for content and "http://oron.com" to find stuff.

Uploaded.to via a proxy to avoid the U.S. IP ban would slow it down to a crawl. Are there fast proxies?

Is that for getting to the download _and_ getting the download? If I can get to the download using TOR, then download it using IDM (i.e. not using a proxy/Tor), that would be great.

    SOPA DEAD!!?

    http://news.inventhelp.com/Articles/SOPA/Inventions/Anonymous-12601.aspx

When you think of the internet hacker group Anonymous you think of the anonymous people wearing the Guy Fawkes mask and using mysterious methods to hack sites and steal information. But how exactly do they work? Their most recent attacks were against the websites of the MPAA, RIAA, DoJ, and Universal Music, which shut them down temporarily. This recent attack was in retaliation of the shutting down of Megaupload as well as the potential passing of SOPA, which, for now, looks to be dead.

Till Soft archive can recommend a GOOD file hosting maybe in russia or china or anywhere where the yanks can´t stick their fingers in (has to support download managers) let´s start decentralizing = torrents, let's share between us at least till we can start making some bucks again

RapidShare and HotFile were already sued and won all trials. Now the USA took a much faster way; shutting down MegaUpload and pressing the others in order to create a domino effect.

But why don't they SHUT DOWN YouTube, the biggest and easiest-to-find place on the Net for PIRATED songs???. Almost ANY song I've been looking for may be EASILY found (sometimes even with a frozen CD cover or a truning vinyl). Then what??? Ahhhhhhhhhhh... YouTube is a USA company!!!

If the SOPA/PIPA/ACTA shit finally passes and becomes a law in real life, and links become illegal... are they also gonna shut down Google and Yahoo (like they did with MegaUpload), the BIGGEST linkers for pirated stuff on earth??? I guess not. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... These are USA companies, too...

Also, what happens with people that has LEGAL stuff (personal photos, work projects, customer data...) uploaded in their MegaUpload premium account???. Just for you to know: there's a spanish customer association (with thousands of legal customers united) which is gonna sue the USA for this... and I guess THOUSANDS more will follow in other countries... Legal customers are not to blame about others did...

What do you think about all this...?

    Best wishes to you *ALL*!

    GUYS, GUYS, GUYS: (GALS ALSO):
It has to be a server that is NOT in USA, NOT in one of USA's puppets, must be someplace where it is difficult for them to stick their fingers.
It must be a server with good download speed, that admits download managers and does NOT put limits to the quantity you download if you have a premium account.

and to all uploaders: it is IDIOTIC naming files with their true name, movies, software, music, whatever. Use some code that does not contain ANY reference to the names.

To all downloaders: buy just monthly premium accounts. That way if you get stuck its only for 10 € or so.

No. They stopped their affiliate program, but files that were uploaded recently can still be downloaded.

For some reason jdownloader does not recognise Oron links any more, but if you can still open files through the browser. Hopefully they don't give up on Oron and fix it.

I think SOPA and ACTA are the owner of all american porn sites and filesharing mechanism is not good for them so they want to down all of them.
SOPA and ACTA nobody will pay for your porn if you close these sites.

I used to hate Rapidshare because they were real assholes, but now they have changed and even free users can download as much data as they want, using very fast links; the only thing a free user cannot do is download files simultaneously... Anyway, what do you folks think?

Why do you guys upload files with obvious names? (the_last_airbender.avi) Why not upload an encrypted RAR file with a more subtle name? (ASWERT.rar) Wouldn't that help?

It's utterly a ridiculous suggestion made by filesonic which would allow you only to download the files that you've had uploaded them which you've definitely retained their copies. Anyway it seems I'm the victim of these new nonsensical measures as my premium account is valid until October 2012 and cant download anything. Any suggestion to retrieve the balance of my subscription fees would be highly appreciated.

When will a final decision be made as to what file sharing host is going to be the official host for softarchive and who is going to make this decision?

I too got screwed by RS when they decided to change the rules but then also by hotfile and luckily my Fsonic account only had 1 month left but fileserve has 11 months left - probably wasted now...

It's really kinda worrying all of this - censorship of the network, indeed this is not the future predicted . where's it gonna stop ? - really - are they gonna investigate and search through all media deposits - how about copyright infringement by sharing illigit material via google doc's as an example - LOL - nobody is safe anymore, anywhere. This is truly a witchhunt and the dark side of the internet being battered like a misbehaving child, and when it comes to this - it's truly the end of freedom - everythings gonna be under surveillance - which is not what any of us really wanted - i guess in the future we might see the creation of a sub - internet - out of reach of the "system" - it's a paradox that we might retreat to european and russian servers to maintain freedom - not just maintaining filesharing that way - i mean there is a legislation for everything they don't like right ?. Torrents will rise - there is always a way out of it - the world is not gonna sit by - being scared - being oppressed by the means of anti terror legislation - i mean anti terror is ok - but it's kinda out of control and sometimes just being abused because they can because it provides the justification of actions against people they normally could not reach or investigate - so i guess if we're fighting for freedom on the internet against censorship etc. - are we Cyber terrorists?

Imagine if there was one filesharing account called Softarchive, and a password such as giveit2me, and we all just used this for our collective file share? that would DOS the host and shut them down (I assume). but it would be funny to explain that its My / Our account for our own personal files.

(Hey were just one big family) I will donate my filesonic account to this!
    Its Useless NOW Anyway!
